Explore the Crypto Market

  1. Go to coinmarketcap.com (opens in new tab)
  2. Sort by market cap. Note the top 5 cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin's "dominance" percentage.
  3. Click on Bitcoin. Find: current price, 24h trading volume, market capitalization, circulating supply.
  4. Now click on Ethereum. Compare its market cap to Bitcoin's. What is the ratio?

Track DeFi Growth in Real Time

  1. Go to defillama.com (opens in new tab)
  2. Note the total TVL (Total Value Locked) number on the homepage.
  3. Click "Chains" in the left menu. Which blockchain has the most DeFi activity?
  4. Compare the current TVL to the DeFi TVL Growth chart from Lesson 01.
Discussion: What percentage of total DeFi TVL is on Ethereum versus other chains? Why might this be?

  2. Identify a major price drop or spike in the last year.
  3. Research what event caused that price movement (regulation, hack, ETF approval, etc.).
  4. Compare Bitcoin's price volatility to traditional stocks like Apple or the S&P 500.
