Mission & Scope
SIG-DeFi focuses on the academic study of decentralized finance protocols and their implications for the broader financial system. Our mission is to provide rigorous analysis of DeFi mechanisms, economics, and risks while exploring opportunities for innovation in permissionless financial infrastructure.
We investigate the design principles, security properties, and economic incentives of DeFi protocols, including lending platforms, decentralized exchanges, derivatives, and yield optimization strategies. Our research bridges theoretical computer science, financial economics, and mechanism design.
Research Focus Areas
- Automated Market Makers (AMMs): Pricing mechanisms, liquidity provision, impermanent loss analysis, and concentrated liquidity
- Lending Protocols: Collateralization models, liquidation mechanisms, interest rate algorithms, and credit risk in DeFi
- Derivatives & Synthetics: On-chain derivatives, perpetual swaps, synthetic assets, and oracle design
- Yield Farming: Token economics, liquidity mining incentives, and sustainable yield generation
- DeFi Security: Smart contract vulnerabilities, flash loan attacks, MEV extraction, and protocol auditing
- Governance: DAO mechanisms, token voting systems, and decentralized decision-making
- Cross-chain DeFi: Bridges, interoperability protocols, and multi-chain liquidity
Current Research Themes
Active research within our SIG includes:
