2026#

October 2026: project meeting at the University of Twente#

13 and 14 October 2026, University of Twente, Enschede

The consortium held its transnational project meeting on the Twente campus, led by the coordinator, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, before two days of training. On the first afternoon Yiting Liu defended a doctoral thesis on network-based credit risk models at the University of Twente.

October 2026: training week at the University of Twente#

13 to 16 October 2026, University of Twente, Enschede

Thirty-eight academics from eleven partner institutions in eight countries meet on the Twente campus: two days of consortium meetings, then three taught modules. Module 1 is led by Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Module 4 by the University of Twente and the Friday guest session by the University of Siena. The week is a closed working meeting; the teaching material is published in full.

May 2026: guest lecture on nature finance#

Past Event: 4 May 2026

Prof. Dr. Ania Zalewska (University of Leicester) gave a guest lecture on Nature Finance as part of the GREEN FINANCE project. The lecture explored nature markets, biodiversity investment, and green financing mechanisms, drawing on Prof. Zalewska’s leadership of the Green Finance Technical Advisory Group at the Land Use for Net Zero (LUNZ) Hub. More than 30 participants joined from the GREEN FINANCE consortium and the University of Twente community, in person and online.

The GREEN FINANCE project hosted its first guest lecture on 4 May 2026, at the University of Twente. Prof. Dr. Ania Zalewska (University of Leicester) presented on Nature Finance to an audience of more than 30 participants from the GREEN FINANCE consortium and the University of Twente community.

Prof. Zalewska is Professor of Finance and Director of the Centre for Finance, Governance and Sustainable Growth at the University of Leicester. She leads the Green Finance Technical Advisory Group at the Land Use for Net Zero (LUNZ) Hub, a UKRI-funded research centre. Her research spans biodiversity investment, nature markets, and the effectiveness of green financing mechanisms.

The lecture explored the theoretical foundations of nature finance and the quantitative dimensions of biodiversity investment and nature market instruments. A Q&A and extended discussion connected the presentation to the GREEN FINANCE curriculum, with particular relevance to Module 4 on climate and nature-related financial risk management.

January 2026: kick-off meeting and three days of training, Sibiu#

Location: Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, Romania Date: January 2026

The inaugural consortium meeting was followed immediately by three days of training:

• Project governance and management rules established
• Project Management Plan presented and discussed
• Partnership Agreement terms reviewed
• Financial management training held
• 3-day training on: “Development of Micro-Credentials,” “Green Finance and Sustainability,” and “Cooperation between HEIs and the Private Sector”
• Participants: 3+ academic staff per Asian university (18+ total), 1 expert trainer per EU partner

December 2025: the grant agreement is signed#

Project Officially Launches

The GREEN FINANCE consortium has officially signed the Grant Agreement with the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). This marks the formal start of our 36-month journey to transform green finance education in Southeast Asia.

February 2025: the proposal goes in#

The GREEN FINANCE consortium successfully submitted its proposal to the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education call (ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE-STRAND-2).

Proposal Highlights:

• Comprehensive needs analysis conducted across Vietnam, Thailand, and Philippines
• Strong consortium with complementary expertise
• Innovative micro-credential approach to green finance education

What is still to come#

October 2026: two weeks of training in Europe#

Locations: University of Twente (Netherlands) + University of Opole (Poland) Dates: Twente 13 to 16 October 2026; Opole 20 to 23 October 2026, provisional until the host confirms

Two one-week training sessions, a week apart:

• Session 1 (UT): Sustainable Investment and Risk Management - ESG criteria, green financing, climate risk
• Session 2 (Opole): Policy Development and Green Financial Instruments - green policies, innovative instruments
• Participants at Twente: thirty-eight in all, twenty-six of them from the six Southeast Asian partner universities

Press releases#

The consortium releases a statement at seven points of the project: approval, the kick-off meeting, each major deliverable, each training event, the finished curriculum, the launch of the programme and the close of the project. Three of those have passed, and each was announced on the project’s LinkedIn page. A press office looking for material on the October week will find the press kit, which carries the facts, the images and the contact.

Publications and outputs#

The published output as of 3 September 2026 is Module 4 of the micro-credential: six lessons with their slides, readers, exercises and worked solutions, free to use under CC BY 4.0 on the Module 4 page. The other four modules reach this page as each partner finishes one.
